Esther 1:11

³⁰Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

²¹Then a convenient day came when Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee. ²²When the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”

⁹A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.

²⁵Now in all Israel there was no one to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty. From the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no defect in him.

⁸let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set.

³Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail. This woman was intelligent and had a beautiful face; but the man was surly and evil in his doings. He was of the house of Caleb.

²⁹Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? ³⁰Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine. ³¹Don’t look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly. ³²In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper. ³³Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.

¹⁷The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained favor and kindness in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown on her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.
