Ecclesiastes 9:4

¹⁸For Sheol^[+] can’t praise you. Death can’t celebrate you. Those who go down into the pit can’t hope for your truth.

⁷“For there is hope for a tree if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, that the tender branch of it will not cease. ⁸Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stock dies in the ground, ⁹yet through the scent of water it will bud, and sprout boughs like a plant. ¹⁰But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he? ¹¹As the waters fail from the sea, and the river wastes and dries up, ¹²so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.

²¹This I recall to my mind; therefore I have hope. ²²It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies don’t fail.

²⁶Besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, that those who want to pass from here to you are not able, and that no one may cross over from there to us.’

²⁷“He said, ‘I ask you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house— ²⁸for I have five brothers—that he may testify to them, so they won’t also come into this place of torment.’

²⁹“But Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’

⁸For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
