Ecclesiastes 7:2

¹²So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

²⁹Oh that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

²⁷Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment,

⁴⁶He said to them, “Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you today, which you shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.

¹⁹whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who think about earthly things.

⁵Now therefore this is what the LORD of Armies says: ‘Consider your ways.

³For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries. ⁴They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you.

⁴His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.

³Alas for you who put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near, ⁴who lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves on their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the middle of the stall, ⁵who strum on the strings of a harp, who invent for themselves instruments of music, like David; ⁶who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best oils, but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁷You said, ‘I will be a princess forever,’ so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, nor did you remember the results.
