Acts 9:5

¹³although I used to be a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

⁴The LORD called Samuel. He said, “Here I am.”

⁵He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He said, “I didn’t call. Lie down again.” He went and lay down.

⁶The LORD called yet again, “Samuel!” Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He answered, “I didn’t call, my son. Lie down again.”

⁷Now Samuel didn’t yet know the LORD, neither was the LORD’s word yet revealed to him. ⁸The LORD called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

⁹Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down. It shall be, if he calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD; for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. ¹⁰The LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak; for your servant hears.”

⁴God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?

⁹Woe to him who strives with his Maker— a clay pot among the clay pots of the earth! Shall the clay ask him who fashions it, ‘What are you making?’ or your work, ‘He has no hands’?

⁹Or do you have an arm like God? Can you thunder with a voice like him? ¹⁰“Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty.

⁹“I myself most certainly thought that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

²²Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

¹⁵But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked. You have grown fat. You have grown thick. You have become sleek. Then he abandoned God who made him, and rejected the Rock of his salvation.

¹²Give sincere homage to the Son,^[+] lest he be angry, and you perish on the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

³⁹But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow it, and you would be found even to be fighting against God!”
