Acts 1:16

⁹Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate bread with me, has lifted up his heel against me.

¹⁸I don’t speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.’

¹²For it was not an enemy who insulted me, then I could have endured it. Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me, then I would have hidden myself from him. ¹³But it was you, a man like me, my companion, and my familiar friend. ¹⁴We took sweet fellowship together. We walked in God’s house with company. ¹⁵Let death come suddenly on them. Let them go down alive into Sheol.^[+] For wickedness is among them, in their dwelling.

²⁰For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his habitation be made desolate. Let no one dwell in it;’and, ‘Let another take his office.’

⁵⁶But all this has happened that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.

³⁸that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”

³⁹For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah said again: ⁴⁰“He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and would turn, and I would heal them.”

⁵⁴How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?”

²Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. ³Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons. ⁴Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”

⁵They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.

⁶When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward and fell to the ground.

⁷Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

⁸Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”

⁴⁷While he was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

⁷Therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you will hear his voice, ⁸don’t harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of the trial in the wilderness,
