1 Samuel 22:1

¹Be merciful to me, God, be merciful to me, for my soul takes refuge in you. Yes, in the shadow of your wings, I will take refuge, until disaster has passed. ²I cry out to God Most High, to God who accomplishes my requests for me. ³He will send from heaven, and save me, he rebukes the one who is pursuing me. Selah. God will send out his loving kindness and his truth. ⁴My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. ⁵Be exalted, God, above the heavens! Let your glory be above all the earth! ⁶They have prepared a net for my steps. My soul is bowed down. They dig a pit before me. They fall into the middle of it themselves. Selah. ⁷My heart is steadfast, God. My heart is steadfast. I will sing, yes, I will sing praises. ⁸Wake up, my glory! Wake up, lute and harp! I will wake up the dawn. ⁹I will give thanks to you, Lord, among the peoples. I will sing praises to you among the nations. ¹⁰For your great loving kindness reaches to the heavens, and your truth to the skies. ¹¹Be exalted, God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth.

^1[+] I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.

¹I cry with my voice to the LORD. With my voice, I ask the LORD for mercy. ²I pour out my complaint before him. I tell him my troubles. ³When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, you knew my route. On the path in which I walk, they have hidden a snare for me. ⁴Look on my right, and see; for there is no one who is concerned for me. Refuge has fled from me. No one cares for my soul. ⁵I cried to you, LORD. I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” ⁶Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need. Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me. ⁷Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name. The righteous will surround me, for you will be good to me.

¹⁵Three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the army of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

³⁸of whom the world was not worthy—wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.

¹⁵the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;

¹³Three of the thirty chief men went down, and came to David in the harvest time to the cave of Adullam; and the troop of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim. ¹⁴David was then in the stronghold; and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

¹⁵I will yet bring a conqueror to you, inhabitants of Mareshah. The glory of Israel will come to Adullam.

¹⁰David arose and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath. ¹¹The servants of Achish said to him, “Isn’t this David the king of the land? Didn’t they sing to one another about him in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?”

¹²David laid up these words in his heart, and was very afraid of Achish the king of Gath. ¹³He changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down on his beard. ¹⁴Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you see the man is insane. Why then have you brought him to me? ¹⁵Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Should this fellow come into my house?”

³For behold, ^[+] the LORD comes out of his place, and will come down and tread on the high places of the earth.
