1 Chronicles 14:4

⁵and these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four, by Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel; ⁶and Ibhar, Elishama, Eliphelet, ⁷Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, ⁸Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine. ⁹All these were the sons of David, in addition to the sons of the concubines; and Tamar was their sister.

³¹the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,

³Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.

⁹Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of peace. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days. ¹⁰He shall build a house for my name; and he will be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’ ¹¹Now, my son, may the LORD be with you and prosper you, and build the house of the LORD your God, as he has spoken concerning you. ¹²May the LORD give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.

²⁴David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. The LORD loved him; ²⁵and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah,^[+] for the LORD’s sake.

¹⁷She said to him, “My lord, you swore by the LORD ^[+] your God ^[+] to your servant, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

¹The LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city: the one rich, and the other poor.

⁵Of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the LORD’s kingdom over Israel. ⁶He said to me, ‘Solomon, your son, shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

⁵In Gibeon, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”

⁶Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today. ⁷Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in. ⁸Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can’t be numbered or counted for multitude. ⁹Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”

¹⁰This request pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have you asked for riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice,

¹³Go in to King David, and tell him, ‘Didn’t you, my lord the king, swear to your servant, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then does Adonijah reign?’
