Proverbs 23:28

²⁶I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and traps, whose hands are chains. Whoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner will be ensnared by her.

¹²Now she is in the streets, now in the squares, and lurking at every corner.

⁸Let’s not commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.

¹⁴The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit. He who is under the LORD’s wrath will fall into it.

¹¹Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding.

²“Lift up your eyes to the bare heights, and see! Where have you not been lain with? You have sat waiting for them by the road, as an Arabian in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your prostitution and with your wickedness.

¹⁶to deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words, ¹⁷who forsakes the friend of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God; ¹⁸for her house leads down to death, her paths to the departed spirits. ¹⁹None who go to her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life.

¹One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here. I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters, ²with whom the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality. Those who dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her sexual immorality.”

²²He followed her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, as a fool stepping into a noose. ²³Until an arrow strikes through his liver, as a bird hurries to the snare, and doesn’t know that it will cost his life. ²⁴Now therefore, sons, listen to me. Pay attention to the words of my mouth. ²⁵Don’t let your heart turn to her ways. Don’t go astray in her paths, ²⁶for she has thrown down many wounded. Yes, all her slain are a mighty army. ²⁷Her house is the way to Sheol,^[+] going down to the rooms of death.

¹⁸But he doesn’t know that the departed spirits are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
