Proverbs 19:4

²⁰The poor person is shunned even by his own neighbor, but the rich person has many friends.

⁶Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts. ⁷All the relatives of the poor shun him; how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.

¹³Not many days after, the younger son gathered all of this together and traveled into a far country. There he wasted his property with riotous living. ¹⁴When he had spent all of it, there arose a severe famine in that country, and he began to be in need. ¹⁵He went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.

¹³“He has put my brothers far from me. My acquaintances are wholly estranged from me. ¹⁴My relatives have gone away. My familiar friends have forgotten me. ¹⁵Those who dwell in my house and my maids consider me a stranger. I am an alien in their sight. ¹⁶I call to my servant, and he gives me no answer. I beg him with my mouth. ¹⁷My breath is offensive to my wife. I am loathsome to the children of my own mother.

¹⁵My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away; ¹⁶which are black by reason of the ice, in which the snow hides itself. ¹⁷In the dry season, they vanish. When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place. ¹⁸The caravans that travel beside them turn away. They go up into the waste, and perish. ¹⁹The caravans of Tema looked. The companies of Sheba waited for them. ²⁰They were distressed because they were confident. They came there, and were confounded. ²¹For now you are nothing. You see a terror, and are afraid. ²²Did I ever say, ‘Give to me’? or, ‘Offer a present for me from your substance’? ²³or, ‘Deliver me from the adversary’s hand’? or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the oppressors’?

¹⁵The rich man’s wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty.
