Proverbs 16:1

²¹There are many plans in a man’s heart, but the LORD’s counsel will prevail.

⁹A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.

¹⁴Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate beforehand how to answer, ¹⁵for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or to contradict.

¹³For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

²⁴A man’s steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?

¹⁹But when they deliver you up, don’t be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say. ²⁰For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

¹¹When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, don’t be anxious how or what you will answer or what you will say; ¹²for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that same hour what you must say.”

²³LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

²⁶I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes. You will keep my ordinances and do them.

¹The king’s heart is in the LORD’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.
