Proverbs 12:5

²³Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts.

⁷Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, to our God, for he will freely pardon.

¹Deliver me, LORD, from evil men. Preserve me from violent men: ²those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war. ³They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips. Selah.

¹⁴Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long will your evil thoughts lodge within you?

¹⁵I will meditate on your precepts, and consider your ways.

⁹The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

²³The desire of the righteous is only good. The expectation of the wicked is wrath.

⁵Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each man will get his praise from God.

⁶If he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood. His heart gathers iniquity to itself. When he goes abroad, he tells it. ⁷All who hate me whisper together against me. They imagine the worst for me.

³When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born. ⁵They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet, ⁶‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the princes of Judah; for out of you shall come a governor who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’”

⁷Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared. ⁸He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”
