Proverbs 1:29

²³For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

²²“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?

^14[+] They tell God, ‘Depart from us, for we don’t want to know about your ways. ¹⁵What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?’

¹¹When its boughs are withered, they will be broken off. The women will come and set them on fire, for they are a people of no understanding. Therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them, and he who formed them will show them no favor.

²⁵choosing rather to share ill treatment with God’s people than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time,

¹⁶But to the wicked God says, “What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips, ¹⁷since you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you?

⁵¹“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do. ⁵²Which of the prophets didn’t your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers. ⁵³You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!”

⁵⁴Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

²⁰For everyone who does evil hates the light and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.

⁴²but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

¹²and say, “How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof.
