Numbers 11:15

⁸When the sun arose, God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he was faint and requested for himself that he might die. He said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”

⁹God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the vine?” He said, “I am right to be angry, even to death.”

²⁰according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will in no way be disappointed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. ²¹For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. ²²But if I live on in the flesh, this will bring fruit from my work; yet I don’t know what I will choose. ²³But I am hard pressed between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. ²⁴Yet to remain in the flesh is more needful for your sake.

¹⁸Why did I come out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

⁴But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough. Now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”

³Therefore now, LORD, take, I beg you, my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

¹⁵The LORD has taken away your judgments. He has thrown out your enemy. The King of Israel, the LORD, is among you. You will not be afraid of evil any more.

³²Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”

²⁰“Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul, ²¹who long for death, but it doesn’t come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures, ²²who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

⁴Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

¹⁵so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones.
