Matthew 6:23

¹¹But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

²²“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.

²⁰Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! ²¹Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

²²“For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”

¹²Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

¹⁸Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool that he may become wise. ¹⁹For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”

¹⁸For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. ¹⁹For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise. I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing.”

²⁰Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

¹⁷Indeed you bear the name of a Jew, rest on the law, glory in God, ¹⁸know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, ¹⁹and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, ²⁰a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babies, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth. ²¹You therefore who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach that a man shouldn’t steal, do you steal? ²²You who say a man shouldn’t commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? ²³You who glory in the law, do you dishonor God by disobeying the law?

¹⁸They don’t know, neither do they consider, for he has shut their eyes, that they can’t see, and their hearts, that they can’t understand. ¹⁹No one thinks, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, “I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals. I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination? Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?” ²⁰He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can’t deliver his soul, nor say, “Isn’t there a lie in my right hand?”

¹⁸being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts.
