Matthew 27:22

²For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no good looks or majesty. When we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. ³He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering and acquainted with disease. He was despised as one from whom men hide their face; and we didn’t respect him.

⁷The LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, says to him whom man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to a servant of rulers: “Kings shall see and rise up, princes, and they shall worship, because of the LORD who is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

¹⁴Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about the sixth hour.^[+] He said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!”

¹⁵They cried out, “Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”

³⁸Be it known to you therefore, brothers,^[+] that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins;

⁸“He trusts in the LORD. Let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, since he delights in him.” ⁹But you brought me out of the womb. You made me trust while at my mother’s breasts.

¹⁶Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom was born Jesus,^[+] who is called Christ.

⁵⁵Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witnesses against Jesus to put him to death, and found none.

²⁰Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus, ²¹but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”

²²He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.” ²³But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed. ²⁴Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.

¹⁷When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”

¹²Pilate again asked them, “What then should I do to him whom you call the King of the Jews?”

¹³They cried out again, “Crucify him!”

¹⁴Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they cried out exceedingly, “Crucify him!”
