Matthew 16:21

¹⁷As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, ¹⁸“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, ¹⁹and will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock, to scourge, and to crucify; and the third day he will be raised up.”

⁶He isn’t here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee, ⁷saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?”

^22[+] While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men, ²³and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up.” They were exceedingly sorry.

³For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, ⁴that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

¹²but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn’t recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them.”

⁶³saying, “Sir, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive: ‘After three days I will rise again.’

²⁸even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

²³him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed; ²⁴whom God raised up, having freed him from the agony of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it. ²⁵For David says concerning him, ‘I saw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. ²⁶Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope, ²⁷because you will not leave my soul in Hades,^[+] neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay. ²⁸You made known to me the ways of life. You will make me full of gladness with your presence.’

²⁹“Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. ³⁰Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ^[+] to sit on his throne, ³¹he foreseeing this, spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul wasn’t left in Hades,^[+] and his flesh didn’t see decay. ³²This Jesus God raised up, to which we all are witnesses.

²⁵But first, he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
