Matthew 1:3

²⁹As he drew back his hand, behold, his brother came out, and she said, “Why have you made a breach for yourself?” Therefore his name was called Perez.³⁰Afterward ^[+] his brother came out, who had the scarlet thread on his hand, and his name was called Zerah.

¹²The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

¹The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.

²⁴About three months later, Judah was told, “Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the prostitute. Moreover, behold, she is with child by prostitution.” Judah said, “Bring her out, and let her be burned.”

²⁵When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “I am with child by the man who owns these.” She also said, “Please discern whose these are—the signet, and the cords, and the staff.”

²⁶Judah acknowledged them, and said, “She is more righteous than I, because I didn’t give her to Shelah, my son.” He knew her again no more.

²⁷In the time of her travail, behold, twins were in her womb.

¹⁸Now this is the history of the generations of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron, ¹⁹and Hezron became the father of Ram, and Ram became the father of Amminadab, ²⁰and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon became the father of Salmon, ²¹and Salmon became the father of Boaz, and Boaz became the father of Obed, ²²and Obed became the father of Jesse, and Jesse became the father of David.

³³the son of Amminadab, the son of Aram,^[+] the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,

²⁰The sons of Judah after their families were: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Perez, the family of the Perezites; of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites. ²¹The sons of Perez were: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites.

⁶Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their brothers, six hundred ninety.

¹These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, ²Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

³The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah, which three were born to him of Shua’s daughter the Canaanitess. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the LORD’s ^[+] sight; and he killed him. ⁴Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.

⁹The sons also of Hezron, who were born to him: Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai. ¹⁰Ram became the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, prince of the children of Judah; ¹¹and Nahshon became the father of Salma, and Salma became the father of Boaz, ¹²and Boaz became the father of Obed, and Obed became the father of Jesse; ¹³and Jesse became the father of his firstborn Eliab, Abinadab the second, Shimea the third, ¹⁴Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, ¹⁵Ozem the sixth, and David the seventh;

⁶Judah took a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.
