Luke 14:28

²⁷Prepare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house.

²²You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.

¹⁹Joshua said to the people, “You can’t serve the LORD, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God. He will not forgive your disobedience nor your sins. ²⁰If you forsake the LORD, and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you evil, and consume you, after he has done you good.”

²¹The people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the LORD.” ²²Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD yourselves, to serve him.” They said, “We are witnesses.”

²³“Now therefore put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD, the God of Israel.”

²⁴The people said to Joshua, “We will serve the LORD our God, and we will listen to his voice.”

³³So therefore, whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.

²⁰Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

²²But Jesus answered, “You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to him, “We are able.”

²³He said to them, “You will indeed drink my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give, but it is for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”

⁴For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know. ⁵For this cause I also, when I couldn’t stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.

¹³Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

⁴They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”

⁵The LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built. ⁶The LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do. ⁷Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” ⁸So the LORD scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city. ⁹Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. From there, the LORD scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.

¹³I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, ¹⁴knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.
