Jonah 1:4

²³Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in great waters, ²⁴these see the LORD’s deeds, and his wonders in the deep. ²⁵For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves. ²⁶They mount up to the sky; they go down again to the depths. Their soul melts away because of trouble. ²⁷They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end. ²⁸Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distress. ²⁹He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still. ³⁰Then they are glad because it is calm, so he brings them to their desired haven. ³¹Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness, for his wonderful deeds for the children of men!

²⁴Behold, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves; but he was asleep. ²⁵The disciples came to him and woke him up, saying, “Save us, Lord! We are dying!”

²⁶He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm.

²⁷The men marveled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

²¹Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

⁷He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings with the rain. He brings the wind out of his treasuries.

¹³For, behold, he who forms the mountains, creates the wind, declares to man what is his thought, who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the high places of the earth: The LORD, the God of Armies, is his name.”

¹⁹The LORD sent an exceedingly strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea.^[+] There remained not one locust in all the borders of Egypt.

³¹A wind from the LORD went out and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, about a day’s journey on this side, and a day’s journey on the other side, around the camp, and about two cubits^[+] above the surface of the earth.

¹⁰You blew with your wind. The sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

¹³When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close to shore. ¹⁴But before long, a stormy wind beat down from shore, which is called Euroclydon.^15[+] When the ship was caught and couldn’t face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along. ¹⁶Running under the lee of a small island called Clauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat. ¹⁷After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis sand bars, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along. ¹⁸As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard. ¹⁹On the third day, they threw out the ship’s tackle with their own hands. ²⁰When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.

¹³Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind on the land all that day, and all night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
