Job 6:9

⁴But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough. Now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”

³Therefore now, LORD, take, I beg you, my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

⁸When the sun arose, God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he was faint and requested for himself that he might die. He said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”

¹⁰Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver. I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction. ¹¹For my own sake, for my own sake, I will do it; for how would my name be profaned? I will not give my glory to another. ¹²“Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel my called: I am he. I am the first. I am also the last. ¹³Yes, my hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has spread out the heavens. when I call to them, they stand up together.

¹⁵so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones. ¹⁶I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.

²⁰“Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul, ²¹who long for death, but it doesn’t come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures, ²²who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

¹⁴I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. ¹⁵If you treat me this way, please kill me right now, if I have found favor in your sight; and don’t let me see my wretchedness.”

⁴For day and night your hand was heavy on me. My strength was sapped in the heat of summer. Selah.

⁶In those days people will seek death, and will in no way find it. They will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

²¹“Have pity on me. Have pity on me, you my friends, for the hand of God has touched me.
