Job 5:7

¹“Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.

¹⁷To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life. ¹⁸It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field. ¹⁹You will eat bread by the sweat of your face until you return to the ground, for you were taken out of it. For you are dust, and you shall return to dust.”

¹⁵As he came out of his mother’s womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand. ¹⁶This also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go. And what profit does he have who labors for the wind? ¹⁷All his days he also eats in darkness, he is frustrated, and has sickness and wrath.

¹³No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

⁸All things are full of weariness beyond uttering. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

⁸You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. ⁹For all our days have passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.

²²For what does a man have of all his labor and of the striving of his heart, in which he labors under the sun?
