Job 20:5

³⁵I have seen the wicked in great power, spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. ³⁶But he passed away, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

⁵“Yes, the light of the wicked will be put out. The spark of his fire won’t shine. ⁶The light will be dark in his tent. His lamp above him will be put out.

⁸For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?

¹⁸Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction. ¹⁹How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors. ²⁰As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord,^[+] when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

³I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

¹²While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down, it withers before any other reed. ¹³So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man will perish,

²²The people shouted, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!” ²³Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he didn’t give God the glory. Then he was eaten by worms and died.

¹¹Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his children, all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

¹²Haman also said, “Yes, Esther the queen let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow I am also invited by her together with the king.

²⁰What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word and immediately with joy receives it; ²¹yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

¹⁹Behold, this is the joy of his way. Out of the earth, others will spring.
