Job 17:1

¹⁰I said, “In the middle of my life I go into the gates of Sheol.^[+] I am deprived of the residue of my years.” ¹¹I said, “I won’t see the LORD,^[+] the LORD^[+] in the land of the living. I will see man no more with the inhabitants of the world. ¹²My dwelling is removed, and is carried away from me like a shepherd’s tent. I have rolled up my life like a weaver. He will cut me off from the loom. From day even to night you will make an end of me. ¹³I waited patiently until morning. He breaks all my bones like a lion. From day even to night you will make an end of me. ¹⁴I chattered like a swallow or a crane. I moaned like a dove. My eyes weaken looking upward. Lord, I am oppressed. Be my security.”

³For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol.^4[+] I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help, ⁵set apart among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand.

¹⁷My breath is offensive to my wife. I am loathsome to the children of my own mother.

¹¹What is my strength, that I should wait? What is my end, that I should be patient?

¹⁶For I will not contend forever, neither will I always be angry; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls whom I have made.

¹⁶After this Job lived one hundred forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, to four generations.

¹³If I look for Sheol^[+] as my house, if I have spread my couch in the darkness, ¹⁴if I have said to corruption, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ and ‘My sister,’
