John 6:26

³You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. ⁴You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

¹⁹whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who think about earthly things.

²¹For they all seek their own, not the things of Jesus Christ.

³¹They come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but don’t do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.

⁵constant friction of people of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. Withdraw yourself from such.

¹⁸Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, ¹⁹saying, “Give me also this power, that whomever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.” ²⁰But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! ²¹You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart isn’t right before God.

¹⁸For those who are such don’t serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the innocent.

¹²Then they believed his words. They sang his praise. ¹³They soon forgot his works. They didn’t wait for his counsel, ¹⁴but gave in to craving in the desert, and tested God in the wasteland.

²A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick.

³⁷For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.
