Jeremiah 45:4

²⁸It will happen that, like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant,” says the LORD.

⁷At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it, ⁸if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them. ⁹At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, ¹⁰if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they don’t obey my voice, then I will repent of the good with which I said I would benefit them.

¹⁰Behold, I have today set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to uproot and to tear down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”

⁸You brought a vine out of Egypt. You drove out the nations, and planted it. ⁹You cleared the ground for it. It took deep root, and filled the land. ¹⁰The mountains were covered with its shadow. Its boughs were like God’s cedars. ¹¹It sent out its branches to the sea, its shoots to the River. ¹²Why have you broken down its walls, so that all those who pass by the way pluck it? ¹³The boar out of the wood ravages it. The wild animals of the field feed on it. ¹⁴Turn again, we beg you, God of Armies. Look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vine, ¹⁵the stock which your right hand planted, the branch that you made strong for yourself. ¹⁶It’s burned with fire. It’s cut down. They perish at your rebuke.

²He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in the middle of it, and also cut out a wine press in it. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. ³“Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard. ⁴What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I looked for it to yield grapes, did it yield wild grapes? ⁵Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled down. ⁶I will lay it a wasteland. It won’t be pruned or hoed, but it will grow briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.” ⁷For the vineyard of the LORD of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression, for righteousness, but behold, a cry of distress.

⁶The LORD was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart. ⁷The LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground—man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky—for I am sorry that I have made them.”

¹⁷For the LORD of Armies, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done to themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.
