Jeremiah 3:25

²¹I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, ‘I will not listen.’ This has been your way from your youth, that you didn’t obey my voice.

¹³I haven’t obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!

²⁶As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so the house of Israel is ashamed— they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets,

¹⁸They will also clothe themselves with sackcloth, and horror will cover them. Shame will be on all faces, and baldness on all their heads.

¹⁶The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned!

¹¹Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who adorn yourselves with torches around yourselves, walk in the flame of your fire, and among the torches that you have kindled. You will have this from my hand: you will lie down in sorrow.

²You shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You shall break down their altars.’ But you have not listened to my voice. Why have you done this?

⁷Our fathers didn’t understand your wonders in Egypt. They didn’t remember the multitude of your loving kindnesses, but were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea.

²¹What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

²⁹Let my adversaries be clothed with dishonor. Let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.
