Jeremiah 2:7

⁷For the LORD your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of springs, and underground water flowing into valleys and hills; ⁸a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive trees and honey; ⁹a land in which you shall eat bread without scarcity, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper.

¹⁸First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.”

²⁷They told him, and said, “We came to the land where you sent us. Surely it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

¹⁷“Son of man, when the house of Israel lived in their own land, they defiled it by their ways and by their deeds. Their way before me was as the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity.

¹“They say, ‘If a man puts away his wife, and she goes from him, and becomes another man’s, should he return to her again?’ Wouldn’t that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the prostitute with many lovers; yet return again to me,” says the LORD.

³⁸They shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted with blood. ³⁹Thus they were defiled with their works, and prostituted themselves in their deeds.

⁹Because she took her prostitution lightly, the land was polluted, and she committed adultery with stones and with wood.

⁶in that day I swore to them to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.

²³his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him the same day; for he who is hanged is accursed of God. Don’t defile your land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.

²⁴“‘Don’t defile yourselves in any of these things; for in all these the nations which I am casting out before you were defiled. ²⁵The land was defiled. Therefore I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out her inhabitants. ²⁶You therefore shall keep my statutes and my ordinances, and shall not do any of these abominations; neither the native-born, nor the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you ²⁷(for the men of the land that were before you had done all these abominations, and the land became defiled), ²⁸that the land not vomit you out also, when you defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you.
