Judges 3:1

²¹I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them; ²²that by them I may test Israel, to see if they will keep the LORD’s way to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.”

²²The LORD your God will cast out those nations before you little by little. You may not consume them at once, lest the animals of the field increase on you.

³The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the hearts.

¹²Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.

¹⁶who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers didn’t know, that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end;

¹⁰After all that generation were gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who didn’t know the LORD, nor the work which he had done for Israel.

²⁴But Jesus didn’t entrust himself to them, because he knew everyone,

²⁷“I have made you a tester of metals and a fortress among my people, that you may know and try their way.

¹⁰But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I will come out like gold.

²You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.
