Judges 16:5

³from the Shihor, which is before Egypt, even to the border of Ekron northward, which is counted as Canaanite; the five lords of the Philistines; the Gazites, and the Ashdodites, the Ashkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avvim,

¹⁵On the seventh day, they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you called us to impoverish us? Isn’t that so?”

⁹But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. ¹⁰For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁵Don’t you know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! ¹⁶Or don’t you know that he who is joined to a prostitute is one body? For, “The two”, he says, “will become one flesh.”¹⁷But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit. ¹⁸Flee sexual immorality! “Every sin that a man does is outside the body,” but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

²¹With persuasive words, she led him astray. With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him. ²²He followed her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, as a fool stepping into a noose. ²³Until an arrow strikes through his liver, as a bird hurries to the snare, and doesn’t know that it will cost his life. ²⁴Now therefore, sons, listen to me. Pay attention to the words of my mouth. ²⁵Don’t let your heart turn to her ways. Don’t go astray in her paths, ²⁶for she has thrown down many wounded. Yes, all her slain are a mighty army. ²⁷Her house is the way to Sheol,^[+] going down to the rooms of death.

²⁴to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue. ²⁵Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids. ²⁶For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.

⁶Then Achish called David and said to him, “As the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords don’t favor you.

¹⁶to deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words, ¹⁷who forsakes the friend of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God; ¹⁸for her house leads down to death, her paths to the departed spirits. ¹⁹None who go to her return again, neither do they attain to the paths of life.

³Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe. The powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.

¹⁶So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.
