Isaiah 40:16

⁶How shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? ⁷Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams? With tens of thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

⁹I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens. ¹⁰For every animal of the forest is mine, and the livestock on a thousand hills. ¹¹I know all the birds of the mountains. The wild animals of the field are mine. ¹²If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.

⁶Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering.

⁵Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, “You didn’t desire sacrifice and offering, but you prepared a body for me. ⁶You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin. ⁷Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O God.’”

⁸Previously saying, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them” (those which are offered according to the law), ⁹then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, ¹⁰by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
