Isaiah 32:9

²³Give ear, and hear my voice! Listen, and hear my speech!

⁹He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

¹⁶Moreover the LORD said, “Because the daughters of Zion are arrogant, and walk with outstretched necks and flirting eyes, walking daintily as they go, jingling ornaments on their feet;

⁷You said, ‘I will be a princess forever,’ so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, nor did you remember the results. ⁸“Now therefore hear this, you who are given to pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one else besides me. I won’t sit as a widow, neither will I know the loss of children.’

¹Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world, ²both low and high, rich and poor together.

¹⁵This is the joyous city that lived carelessly, that said in her heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” How she has become a desolation, a place for animals to lie down in! Everyone who passes by her will hiss and shake their fists.

¹¹“Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his dregs, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity; therefore his taste remains in him, and his scent is not changed. ¹²Therefore behold, the days come,” says the LORD, “that I will send to him those who pour off, and they will pour him off; and they will empty his vessels, and break their containers in pieces.

¹Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! ²Go to Calneh, and see. From there go to Hamath the great. Then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Is their border greater than your border? ³Alas for you who put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near, ⁴who lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves on their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the middle of the stall, ⁵who strum on the strings of a harp, who invent for themselves instruments of music, like David; ⁶who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best oils, but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁵Those who ate delicacies are desolate in the streets. Those who were brought up in purple embrace dunghills.

²I will cut off the beautiful and delicate one, the daughter of Zion. ³Shepherds with their flocks will come to her. They will pitch their tents against her all around. They will feed everyone in his place.”

⁴“Prepare war against her! Arise! Let’s go up at noon. Woe to us! For the day declines, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out. ⁵Arise! Let’s go up by night, and let’s destroy her palaces.” ⁶For the LORD of Armies said, “Cut down trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem. This is the city to be visited. She is filled with oppression within herself.
