Habakkuk 1:4

⁷“Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?

¹²⁶It is time to act, LORD, for they break your law.

²¹How the faithful city has become a prostitute! She was full of justice. Righteousness lodged in her, but now there are murderers. ²²Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water. ²³Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes and follows after rewards. They don’t defend the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

²⁰Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with you, which brings about mischief by statute? ²¹They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

⁹Then he said to me, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perversion; for they say, ‘The LORD has forsaken the land, and the LORD doesn’t see.’

¹You are righteous, LORD, when I contend with you; yet I would like to plead a case with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?

¹³transgressing and denying the LORD, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. ¹⁴Justice is turned away backward, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has fallen in the street, and uprightness can’t enter. ¹⁵Yes, truth is lacking; and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.

²⁰Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

⁶“You shall not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.

²“You shall not follow a crowd to do evil. You shall not testify in court to side with a multitude to pervert justice.
