Genesis 37:28

⁹“The patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt. God was with him

¹⁷He sent a man before them. Joseph was sold for a slave.

²She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

⁴Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” They came near. He said, “I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt.

⁵Now don’t be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.

¹The children of Israel did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, so the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years. ²The hand of Midian prevailed against Israel; and because of Midian the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in the mountains, the caves, and the strongholds. ³So it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites, the Amalekites, and the children of the east came up against them.

¹⁵and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him to you?” So they weighed out for him thirty pieces of silver.

²⁵They sat down to eat bread, and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

³⁶The Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard.

¹⁶Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

¹²I said to them, “If you think it best, give me my wages; and if not, keep them.” So they weighed for my wages thirty pieces of silver. ¹³The LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter—the handsome price that I was valued at by them!” I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter in the LORD’s house.
