Ezekiel 5:14

³Lift up your feet to the perpetual ruins, all the evil that the enemy has done in the sanctuary. ⁴Your adversaries have roared in the middle of your assembly. They have set up their standards as signs. ⁵They behaved like men wielding axes, cutting through a thicket of trees. ⁶Now they break all its carved work down with hatchet and hammers. ⁷They have burned your sanctuary to the ground. They have profaned the dwelling place of your Name. ⁸They said in their heart, “We will crush them completely.” They have burned up all the places in the land where God was worshiped. ⁹We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, neither is there among us anyone who knows how long. ¹⁰How long, God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever?

⁴You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed, and are defiled in your idols which you have made! You have caused your days to draw near, and have come to the end of your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all the countries.

¹God, the nations have come into your inheritance. They have defiled your holy temple. They have laid Jerusalem in heaps. ²They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of your saints to the animals of the earth. ³They have shed their blood like water around Jerusalem. There was no one to bury them. ⁴We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and derision to those who are around us.

¹⁷Then I said to them, “You see the bad situation that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let’s build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we won’t be disgraced.”

¹⁸for the mountain of Zion, which is desolate. The foxes walk on it.

⁸Jerusalem has grievously sinned. Therefore she has become unclean. All who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness. Yes, she sighs and turns backward.

¹²Therefore Zion for your sake will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.

¹⁸For the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you, when you enter into Egypt; and you will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach; and you will see this place no more.’

⁸I will make this city an astonishment and a hissing. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

³¹I will lay your cities waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation. I will not take delight in the sweet fragrance of your offerings. ³²I will bring the land into desolation, and your enemies who dwell in it will be astonished at it.
