Deuteronomy 9:19

¹⁴So the LORD turned away from the evil which he said he would do to his people.

¹⁶Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. ¹⁷Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.

¹⁰I stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD listened to me that time also. The LORD would not destroy you.

¹⁷The LORD said to Moses, “I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.”

¹⁰Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”

¹¹Moses begged the LORD his God, and said, “LORD, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

⁶Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who call on his name. They called on the LORD, and he answered them.

²Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them about the Jews who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. ³They said to me, “The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

⁴When I heard these words, I sat down and wept, and mourned several days; and I fasted and prayed before the God ^[+] of heaven, ⁵and said, “I beg you, LORD, ^[+] the God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments, ⁶let your ear now be attentive and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants, while I confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father’s house have sinned. ⁷We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moses.

⁴“I tell you, my friends, don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵But I will warn you whom you should fear. Fear him who after he has killed, has power to cast into Gehenna.^[+] Yes, I tell you, fear him.

²When they finished eating the grass of the land, then I said, “Lord GOD, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”

³The LORD relented concerning this. “It shall not be,” says the LORD.

⁵Then I said, “Lord GOD, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”

⁶The LORD relented concerning this. “This also shall not be,” says the Lord GOD.
