2 Samuel 7:6

¹⁶‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.’

¹⁸Moses raised up the tabernacle, and laid its sockets, and set up its boards, and put in its bars, and raised up its pillars. ¹⁹He spread the covering over the tent, and put the roof of the tabernacle above on it, as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹The whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled themselves together at Shiloh, and set up the Tent of Meeting there. The land was subdued before them.

³⁴Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the LORD’s glory filled the tabernacle. ³⁵Moses wasn’t able to enter into the Tent of Meeting, because the cloud stayed on it, and the LORD’s glory filled the tabernacle. ³⁶When the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward, throughout all their journeys; ³⁷but if the cloud wasn’t taken up, then they didn’t travel until the day that it was taken up. ³⁸For the cloud of the LORD was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

¹⁴He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

¹⁵Moses said to him, “If your presence doesn’t go with me, don’t carry us up from here.

²³“‘If by these things you won’t be turned back to me, but will walk contrary to me, ²⁴then I will also walk contrary to you; and I will strike you, even I, seven times for your sins.

⁴⁴“Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern that he had seen;

²⁷“‘If you in spite of this won’t listen to me, but walk contrary to me, ²⁸then I will walk contrary to you in wrath. I will also chastise you seven times for your sins.

³³They set forward from the Mount of the LORD three days’ journey. The ark of the LORD’s covenant went before them three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them. ³⁴The cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp. ³⁵When the ark went forward, Moses said, “Rise up, LORD, and let your enemies be scattered! Let those who hate you flee before you!” ³⁶When it rested, he said, “Return, LORD, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel.”

⁵for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tent to another. ⁶In all places in which I have walked with all Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’”’
