2 Samuel 13:39

⁶⁷Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. He loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

³⁵All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. He said, “For I will go down to Sheol^[+] to my son, mourning.” His father wept for him.

¹²After many days, Shua’s daughter, the wife of Judah, died. Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheep shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah, the Adullamite.

³²Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people. Your eyes will look and fail with longing for them all day long. There will be no power in your hand.

³⁰Now, you want to be gone, because you greatly longed for your father’s house, but why have you stolen my gods?”

²⁶since he longed for you all, and was very troubled because you had heard that he was sick.

²My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

¹⁹But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”

²⁰Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the LORD’s house, and worshiped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him and he ate. ²¹Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”

²²He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether the LORD will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ ²³But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

²⁰My soul is consumed with longing for your ordinances at all times.
