2 Samuel 11:21

¹Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people who were with him, rose up early and encamped beside the spring of Harod. Midian’s camp was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

⁵⁰Then Abimelech went to Thebez and encamped against Thebez, and took it. ⁵¹But there was a strong tower within the city, and all the men and women of the city fled there, and shut themselves in, and went up to the roof of the tower. ⁵²Abimelech came to the tower and fought against it, and came near to the door of the tower to burn it with fire. ⁵³A certain woman cast an upper millstone on Abimelech’s head, and broke his skull.

⁵⁴Then he called hastily to the young man, his armor bearer, and said to him, “Draw your sword and kill me, that men not say of me, ‘A woman killed him.’ His young man thrust him through, and he died.”

²⁷When Abner had returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the middle of the gate to speak with him quietly, and struck him there in the body, so that he died for the blood of Asahel his brother.

³⁴Your hands weren’t bound, and your feet weren’t put into fetters. As a man falls before the children of iniquity, so you fell.” All the people wept again over him.

³²Therefore on that day he named him Jerub-Baal,^[+] Baal contend against him, because he has broken down his altar.”

⁸Deliver me from all my transgressions. Don’t make me the reproach of the foolish.

⁵¹Samaria hasn’t committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters by all your abominations which you have done. ⁵²You also bear your own shame yourself, in that you have given judgment for your sisters; through your sins that you have committed more abominable than they, they are more righteous than you. Yes, be also confounded, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters.

¹⁰They all will answer and ask you, “Have you also become as weak as we are? Have you become like us?”
