2 Chronicles 24:2

⁴He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. ⁵He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper.

²He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, but not with a perfect heart.

¹⁷Now after the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and bowed down to the king. Then the king listened to them. ¹⁸They abandoned the house of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherah poles and the idols, so wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness. ¹⁹Yet he sent prophets to them to bring them again to the LORD, and they testified against them; but they would not listen.

²⁰The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “God says, ‘Why do you disobey the LORD’s commandments, so that you can’t prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you.’”

²¹They conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the LORD’s house. ²²Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May the LORD look at it, and repay it.”

²Jehoash did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

¹²Then they believed his words. They sang his praise. ¹³They soon forgot his works. They didn’t wait for his counsel,

¹³The Lord said, “Because this people draws near with their mouth and honors me with their lips, but they have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which has been taught;

¹⁶These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy. ¹⁷They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

³⁶But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue. ³⁷For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.
