1 Samuel 30:26

²⁷Now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.

¹Now these are those who came to David to Ziklag while he was a fugitive from Saul the son of Kish. They were among the mighty men, his helpers in war. ²They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow. They were of Saul’s relatives of the tribe of Benjamin. ³The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; Beracah; Jehu the Anathothite; ⁴Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty and a leader of the thirty; Jeremiah; Jahaziel; Johanan; Jozabad the Gederathite; ⁵Eluzai; Jerimoth; Bealiah; Shemariah; Shephatiah the Haruphite; ⁶Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites; ⁷and Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.

⁸Some Gadites joined David in the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the gazelles on the mountains: ⁹Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, ¹⁰Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth, ¹¹Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh, ¹²Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth, ¹³Jeremiah the tenth, and Machbannai the eleventh. ¹⁴These of the sons of Gad were captains of the army. He who was least was equal to one hundred, and the greatest to one thousand. ¹⁵These are those who went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all who lived in the valleys, both toward the east and toward the west.

²⁷Let those who favor my righteous cause shout for joy and be glad. Yes, let them say continually, “May the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant!”

⁵I thought it necessary therefore to entreat the brothers that they would go before to you and arrange ahead of time the generous gift that you promised before, that the same might be ready as a matter of generosity, and not of greediness.

¹⁸You have ascended on high. You have led away captives. You have received gifts among people, yes, among the rebellious also, that the LORD

¹⁶A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men. ¹⁷He who pleads his cause first seems right— until another comes and questions him. ¹⁸The lot settles disputes, and keeps strong ones apart. ¹⁹A brother offended is more difficult than a fortified city. Disputes are like the bars of a fortress. ²⁰A man’s stomach is filled with the fruit of his mouth. With the harvest of his lips he is satisfied. ²¹Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit. ²²Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the LORD. ²³The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly. ²⁴A man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

¹⁵He returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, “See now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.”

⁸But the noble devises noble things, and he will continue in noble things.

¹¹Please take the gift that I brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” He urged him, and he took it.
