1 Kings 8:27

¹The LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me? Where will I rest?

⁶But who is able to build him a house, since heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain him? Who am I then, that I should build him a house, except just to burn incense before him?

²⁴Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I can’t see him?” says the LORD. “Don’t I fill heaven and earth?” says the LORD.

¹⁸“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!

⁴⁸However, the Most High doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says, ⁴⁹‘heaven is my throne, and the earth a footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build me?’ says the Lord. ‘Or what is the place of my rest?

⁷Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? ⁸If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol,^[+] behold, you are there! ⁹If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea, ¹⁰even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me. ¹¹If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me. The light around me will be night,” ¹²even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you. ¹³For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. ¹⁴I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. ¹⁵My frame wasn’t hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. ¹⁶Your eyes saw my body. In your book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them.

¹⁴Behold, to the LORD your God belongs heaven, the heaven of heavens, and the earth, with all that is therein.

⁴The LORD is high above all nations, his glory above the heavens.

¹⁴The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born^[+] of the Father, full of grace and truth.

²⁴The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands.
