1 Kings 15:12

⁴⁶The remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land.

²³For they also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree. ²⁴There were also sodomites in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD drove out before the children of Israel.

⁷Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the children of Ammon. ⁸So he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

⁷Even as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, having in the same way as these given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are shown as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

²⁶For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. ²⁷Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error.

¹⁸knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things like silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,

²Asa did that which was good and right in the LORD his God’s eyes, ³for he took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, ⁴and commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command. ⁵Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

³He walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father.

²“The LORD was very displeased with your fathers. ³Therefore tell them, the LORD of Armies says: ‘Return to me,’ says the LORD of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the LORD of Armies. ⁴Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: The LORD of Armies says, ‘Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear nor listen to me, says the LORD. ⁵Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? ⁶But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as the LORD of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”

¹⁸I said to their children in the wilderness, ‘Don’t walk in the statutes of your fathers. Don’t observe their ordinances or defile yourselves with their idols. ¹⁹I am the LORD your God. Walk in my statutes, keep my ordinances, and do them.
