1 Kings 11:1

¹⁷He shall not multiply wives to himself, that his heart not turn away. He shall not greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

²⁴to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.

²³In those days I also saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab; ²⁴and their children spoke half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people. ²⁵I contended with them, cursed them, struck certain of them, plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons, or for yourselves. ²⁶Didn’t Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him, and he was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless foreign women caused even him to sin. ²⁷Shall we then listen to you to do all this great evil, to trespass against our God in marrying foreign women?”

⁵that they may keep you from the strange woman, from the foreigner who flatters with her words.

¹⁶to deliver you from the strange woman, even from the foreigner who flatters with her words,

⁸So he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

⁸Remove your way far from her. Don’t come near the door of her house, ⁹lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel one; ¹⁰lest strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich another man’s house. ¹¹You will groan at your latter end, when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹²and say, “How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof. ¹³I haven’t obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me! ¹⁴I have come to the brink of utter ruin, among the gathered assembly.” ¹⁵Drink water out of your own cistern, running water out of your own well. ¹⁶Should your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares? ¹⁷Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you. ¹⁸Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. ¹⁹A loving doe and a graceful deer— let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love. ²⁰For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another?

¹⁴The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit. He who is under the LORD’s wrath will fall into it.

¹Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city until he had finished building his own house, the LORD’s house, and the wall around Jerusalem.

³³Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.
